Grants Awarded

The Southport Sailing Foundation has recently begun awarding grants to sailors and organizations who make a specific grant request using our application form. We hope to raise more money that can be awarded as grants to sailors in the future.

Grants awarded to date:

2008
Willie McBride and Joe Morris, $300 for travel to 2009 Miami Olympic Class Regatta in 470s

Alix Hahn, Clemmie Everett, Jennifer Leary, Carolyn Russell (all LIS sailors representing Area B), $500 for travel to 2008 Adams Cup

Kathleen Tocke and Anna Tunnicliffe, $500 for 2008 Snipe Women’s Worlds (where they finished 2nd)

Amanda Clark & Sarah Mergenthaler, US Olympic 470 representatives, Shelter Island, NY – $2500 for 2008 Olympic campaign
 
Brendan Kopp & Michael Costello, 420 sailors, Fairfield, CT – $1000 for travel to the 2008 US Sailing Youth Championships in San Francisco, California. (where they finished tied for 2nd in 420s)
 
Storm Trysail Club – $1000 to support the Junior Safety-at-Sea programs offered by the Storm Trysail Club to junior sailors around the country

Before 2008

Leigh Hammel, 420 sailor, Darien, CT – $1500 to attend the 2006 International 420 World Championships in Spain.

Junior Sailing Association of Long Island Sound/Storm Trysail Club – $150 to help support the joint effort of both organizations to give the junior sailors of JSA a Safety-at-Sea program.
 
Oyster Bay Sailing Foundation – $300 to support the OBSF’s program to offer small stipends to qualified and local U S SAILING certified instructors to participate in the rigorous US SAILING training program to become certified Instructor Trainers.
